Betaine is derived from Choline a natural component of beetroot. Betaine is an important cofactor in the methylation process, whereby methyl groups are donated for key processes which include the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, the synthesis of melatonin and the antioxidant CoQ10, the regulation of DNA function, influencing the levels S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe) and folate which are also key mediators of methylation.
