WHAT CAUSES A LACK OF CONCENTRATION IN A TEEN?

There are many possible causes that can affect your teen’s ability to concentrate such as a lack of sleep or poor routine, a diet high in sugar and fat with no sustaining nutrition to assist concentration in the classroom, excessive screen-time, especially prior to going to bed and difficulties at home. A good starting point is healthy nutrition and at least 8 – 10 hours of sleep per night. If you suspect your child has a learning difficulty or suffers from ADHD, consult with a registered health professional or physician.

HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY CHILD’S CONCENTRATION AND FOCUS?

Specific nutrients that support concentration and focus include omega-3 fatty acids and micronutrients such as magnesium, iron, B-complex vitamins and antioxidants. Encourage your teen to eat dark oily fish, such as salmon, sardines and mackerel (if they will eat these!) and plenty of dark, green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and kale.
