When is the sweet spot for building muscle?

The sweet spot for building muscle is approximately ages 15 – 25 when both the testosterone and the growth hormone levels are high. When is the best time to consume extra protein?

Research suggests that consuming lean protein 15 – 20 minutes before, during and within one hour of working out may improve muscle gain. Since you are probably not going to be eating a steak or chicken breast at gym, a protein drink or supplement may be beneficial immediately before, during or after workouts, but it is not necessary.

How much protein should I be eating?

Protein needs are based on age, sex, body weight and stage of development, with Teenagers needing between 10 to 30% of their daily calories from protein. Although an individual’s exact needs will vary, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) provides a good reference for how much of a certain nutrient a healthy individual needs in a day. The RDA for protein is 46 grams for Teenager girls and 52 grams for Teenager boys per day.

The amount of protein Teenagers needs depends on their height, weight, gender and level of activity. More active Teenager Athletes require more protein than the recommended RDA.
